Mata Hari: Eye of the Dawn

Mata Hari: Eye of the Dawn been playing music in this incarnation since Fall 2004 and were founding members of Fault Collective and Bitch Velour. They've been fast friends since 2001. There are two projects under construction. The first being a death metal project featuring the nasal contributions of John MInemeyer and the second being inspired by the trials and tribulations of Early American Women...

They are a cello duo with the occaisonal guitar thrown in for good measure. The two ladies have played together in other outfits, though this is the most self explorative and instrumentally sparse.

Nate Mars

NATE MARS started his music career back in 1996, playing the bass guitar for a few hardcore bands in upstate New York and while watching Twilight Zone episodes with no volume in his parent's basement, Nate wrote his first music under the influence of this visual inspiration. He began his musical career using little more than a cassette 4-track to create beat-oriented, film inspired music.

Nate Mars always had an interest in electronic music, even as a bass player. In the year 2000, he began to learn the fundamentals of the turntables. During his quest to master the decks, he came to a realization that he saw beyond the limits of a single instrument. Instead, he heard a unified composition of many instruments. Recognizing electronic music as the modern form of composition, he saw production as the next logical step in his musical journey.

Nate Mars, now 25, has more than acquainted himself with many aspects of the musical world he has submerged himself into. With his musical talent crossing most traditional music boundaries, DJ/Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist Nate Mars fuels the NYC underground electronic music scene with his own hybrid of laptop programming and live instrumentation to produce drum and bass tracks. The combination yields his love of both organic composition and technology.

When asked why he swapped out his rock roots for electronic music, Nate responded, "I never stopped playing instruments to make electronic music, I still practice all the time. I'm trying to break the preconceived notion that instruments and circuits can not be integrated together successfully as one sound. I want to bridge the gap by flipping the crossfader on people's brains and allowing them to see that all mediums of artistic expression should be embraced, since it is the message that is really important."

Nate Mars is making his way to the ears of electronic fans everywhere. In August 2004, his track "Concentric Circles" was released on Liberation Systems' The Deprogramming Sequence. This compilation also includes such accomplished artists as DJ Spooky, DJ Wally, Guillermo Brown, amongst others. In addition to the CD release, "Concentric Circles" will also be featured on the limited edition vinyl. The compilation is available domestically and in Europe through Morpheus Distribution.

The track "Concentric Circles," is the aural illustration of stone throwing. Every action - even the smallest ripple - sets in motion a chain of events that go beyond what we see. It's the keen observations of what most people never perceive that inspire Nate Mars to weave together the auditory pieces of his actions and those in nature to make music.

Nate Mars is currently in the studio finishing up an EP scheduled for a Winter 2006 release. Check out the new tracks here.
